The resort

The biggest beach on the North Black Sea Coast

Golden Sands is Bulgaria's biggest beach resort, just 18 kilometres north of Varna. Its name is no accident — the sand here is fine, golden and glows in the afternoon light, and the beachfront stretches for about 3.5 kilometres.

The resort was designed in the middle of the last century as a modern tourist complex among dense forest. Today Golden Sands combines its long beach tradition with new hotels, a water park and a lively nightlife, while guests further from the centre can find quiet coves among the trees.

The beach

Three and a half kilometres of golden sand

The beach is wide, fine-grained and slopes gently into the water — ideal for families with children. The resort holds the prestigious 'Blue Flag' for the quality of its seawater and sustainable beach management.

The southern end of the beach turns into a rocky coastline, while the north borders jetties and a yacht marina. During the season the beach offers full infrastructure — from umbrellas and sun loungers to water attractions and beach bars.

The forest behind the beach

The area has been protected since 1943 — it is Bulgaria's oldest nature park. Golden Sands is the only Bulgarian resort that literally grew up inside a forest: oak and hornbeam groves run almost down to the beach.

Marked eco-trails lead to viewing platforms with views over the whole bay. The heart of the park is quiet and cool even in the height of summer, and the coastal path to the north reaches the rock monastery of Aladzha.

Adrenaline until sunset

Golden Sands doesn't sleep even after sunset. The resort offers a water park with dozens of slides, tennis courts, golf, horse riding and one of the liveliest nightlife centres on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast.

Events in the open-air amphitheatre, summer concerts and bars along the seaside promenade create the atmosphere of a true summer resort, where everyone finds their thing — from a family holiday to sleepless summer nights.

Nearby

Aladzha Monastery and old Varna

Golden Sands is a convenient base for touring the whole North Black Sea Coast. Just 3 kilometres away in the forest hides the rock monastery of Aladzha, and Varna with its museums, Sea Garden and Roman baths is a quarter of an hour away.

If you have time, continue north to the resorts of St. Constantine & Helena or Albena — all the stops of our journey are close by.

☀ Tip

Coming by car, park outside the centre and enter the resort on foot or by the mini-train — this way you avoid the July and August traffic.
