The Palace and the Botanical Garden
Where the Quiet Nest residence is, how to get there by taxi and what to expect from the visit in every season.
The Palace in Balchik — or the Quiet Nest, as it is known — is probably the most loved landmark in town. The residence was built for the Romanian Queen Marie and combines architecture, sea and greenery in a way that is hard to put into words. You simply have to see it.
If you are in Balchik, the park is surprisingly accessible. The Palace and the Botanical Garden are about 2 kilometres from the town centre — a distance covered by any taxi in just a few minutes.
Why take a taxi
At first glance you might think you could walk. But on hot summer days those two kilometres feel like five. And the garden is huge — over 65 acres with thousands of plant species — so you will cover quite a distance inside too, along the alleys, while you explore.
With a taxi you simply sit down, agree on the return time and enjoy. On a hot day, the driver can pick you up at one entrance and leave you at another, which saves walking in the middle of the day.
Address and opening hours
The park is open all season, with varying hours — in peak summer usually from morning to late afternoon, and shorter outside the season. I recommend checking the current opening hours before your visit, as they change depending on the month and the weather.
The drive from Balchik centre takes 5–7 minutes by taxi. The big botanical garden is inside the complex, right on the shore — there is no need to go to another address, everything is in one place. More details about the history and what to see are on the Palace and Garden page.
Tips for the visit
In summer the best time is early morning, before the bus crowds and the scorching sun. The garden is fresh and almost empty, and the café by the sea is all yours. Autumn is charming too — the leaf colours above the waterside cliffs create pictures people tell stories about.
And remember: after the walk, the healthy stroll does not end at your hotel. The taxi back from the Palace to the centre or your hotel takes one call to +359 889 691 458 or the reservation form. City rides in Balchik are fast and convenient to every point of town.
